Janel, Inc. was incorporated in 1963 to serve the ever growing Production Assembly and Solder Industry 

with premium solder solutions from Kester Solder, JBC Tools, ESD Products and Solutions from DESCO

Industries, and various supplies for soldering and hand tools.

Started in Stirling, NJ, USA, the business presently operates Bound Brook, NJ USA.

 

On September 19, 1999, just 4 weeks after moving into the newly renovated building, Hurricane Floyd hit 

the North East USA and the Raritan River ran over its banks and drowned town of Bound Brook.  The new 

facilities were under 12 feet of water. JANEL, Inc. suffered a total loss of building, records, computers and 

inventory. However; business operations did not skip a beat mainly by the loyal and determined staff 

establishing a temporary office from which orders were processed and customers were serviced by direct

ship and new inbound inventory. By November 1999, the building was re-renovated and it was business as 

usual.

April, 16, 2007 had another round of disaster with the Raritan River; Janel, Inc. was liquefied with 6 feet of 

water to the facility and total losses of building, records, computers and inventory, again. Direct ship orders 

were worked up with the vendors and the new, re-renovation finished in November 2007.

 

March 2010, the one hundred year floods seem to be re-occuring much more frequently. The facility was 

marginally affected by 3 inches of water, having a downtime of 7 business days, mostly from waiting for the 

power grid to be re-activated.

 

The US Army Corps of Engineers have been dilligently working on a flood control project for the town of Bound 

Brook, NJ.  "A Project Cooperation Agreement was signed 24 June 1999 with the State of New Jersey.  The 

following project features have been constructed to date and are currently in place:  Segment U levees and 

floodwalls;  Segment R1 levee;  Talmage Avenue Bridge raising;  Lincoln Blvd Bridge raising;  Segment T 

levee, pump station and closure gate;  Finderne Farm wetland mitigation site;  Conrail Bridge demolition;  

flood proofing of 500 Union Avenue in

Bound Brook;  volunteer buyout and demolition of homes on Prospect Place in Middlesex Borough."
